This spiky chap is a “steak turner”. They don’t appear to be all that common here in the UK but apparently are rather popular with our cousins over the pond …probably due to their enduring enthusiasm for throwing huge slabs o’ meat over hot coals!
The purpose and method of use should be fairly obvious… you stick the spiky end into your nicely searing slice of cow, and a quick flick of the wrist will flip it neatly over and deposit it t’other way up.
The design features a twisted leaf handle and a simple barley twist to the shaft. The finish on this one is just vegetable oil seasoning – as obviously it wants to be food safe. Instructions for preserving and renewing the seasoning are included on the tag.
As standard, I’ll make these in a “right handed” orientation, but if you are a leftie then please drop me a note and I’ll make the spike go the other way.
