Start your campfire in the manner used for centuries before matches came along! This kit comprises of a hand forged “striker”, made from hardened high carbon steel and fitted with a leather lanyard, together with a couple of handy pieces of flint and a small packet of char-cloth. These are all packed into a tin (which also has a bit of extra room for your own tinder, if you wish) giving you everything you need to start your campfire on the go.
When you run out you can make your own char cloth by cutting up some old cotton rags and putting them in a sealed tin with a single hole punched into the lid over the embers of your fire. Once the smoke has stopped coming from the hole, remove the tin from the heat and seal up the hole with a nail until it has cooled. The char cloth can then be removed and used immediately or kept indefinitely in a sealed tin with your fire lighting stuff.
Full instructions for using the striker and making char cloth are included in the kit too.
If you don’t need all the other stuff and just want the fire steel on its own, that can be found here…
